PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Braathen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and C S Kitiona (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that C S Kitiona was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Braathen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, C S Kitiona!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Braathen wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kitiona blocks a jab.
Kitiona tries to clinch but Braathen moves out of range.
Kitiona avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Braathen loads up on a big right hand but Kitiona slips the punch.
Kitiona fails in his attempt to clinch.
Braathen comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Braathen tries a head kick but it misses.
Braathen attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Braathen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kitiona.
Daniel Braathen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Braathen misses with a two punch combination.
Braathen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kitiona tries to clinch but Braathen is having none of it.
Kitiona avoids the head kick by Braathen.

Kitiona shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Kitiona has hold of Braathen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Braathen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Braathen tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kitiona is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Braathen has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Kitiona looks gassed!

Kitiona working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Braathen is working to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kitiona wants to take his opponent's back but Braathen doesn't allow it.
Braathen tries to improve his position but instead Kitiona has taken his back!
Braathen wants to get back to his feet.
Kitiona has the hooks in. Braathen is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Kitiona wants to take a breather but Braathen is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A punch lands to the side of Kitiona 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Kitiona has Braathen up against the ropes in a clinch.
Braathen tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kitiona just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Braathen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kitiona uses from the top position.

Kitiona is looking to work some ground and pound but Braathen has wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Braathen rushes Kitiona and presses him up against the ropes.
Braathen has Kitiona pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Kitiona manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kitiona gets control of Braathen's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kitiona will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

It looks like C S Kitiona has been cut.
Kitiona avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Braathen throws a nice looking combination but Kitiona bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kitiona is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Kitiona is looking to take a break and control but Braathen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kitiona has one foot on Braathen's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Kitiona shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kitiona showed some decent athleticism there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Braathen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kitiona momentarily.

Braathen throws an overhand right that lands on Kitiona's shoulder, as Kitiona tries to avoid the shot.

Braathen throws a one two combo.
Kitiona tries to close the distance and clinch but Braathen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Braathen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Braathen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Braathen looks to throw the jab but Kitiona is out of range.
Kitiona tries to bum rush Braathen with a series of wild strikes but Braathen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kitiona avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
C S Kitiona is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Braathen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice defenses there by Kitiona.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Braathen.

Braathen stuffs the takedown attempt from Kitiona. Kitiona gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters circle momentarily. Braathen darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

C S Kitiona has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kitiona shoots in but Braathen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Braathen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kitiona.

C S Kitiona comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Braathen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
