PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Hopper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Infamous First (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson Hopper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Infamous First!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
First shoots in but no luck this time.

First looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hopper is looking for a sweep. First is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hopper wants to control but First is keeping busy.
Hopper controlling the position for now.
First thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hopper's head.
First not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
First seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hopper tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

First darts in and clinches Hopper up against the cage.
First jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hopper walks away with a smile on his face. First gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
First has his takedown stuffed
and Hopper counters with a head kick. That will keep First thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Tyson Hopper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Infamous First.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hopper rushes First and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
First fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hopper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
First tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hopper defends well and First ends up having to push Hopper into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hopper can't break the clinch.
First gets underhooks to prevent Hopper's takedown attempt.

Hopper manages to break the clinch.
Hopper throws a lazy head kick
and First counters with a big head kick but Hopper shrugs it off.
First avoids the head kick by Hopper.
First shoots in for a takedown but Hopper shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
First waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hopper.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
First comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
First takes a head kick and keeps coming.
First closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hopper circles away.
First is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
First fails with a takedown attempt.

First rushes Hopper and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

First manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
First has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hopper postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hopper wants to control from the top but First keeps moving.
First wants to sweep but no luck.

First has his foot on Hopper's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hopper works his way back into a safe position though.

Hopper avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
First looks winded!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hopper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Infamous First dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


First fails with a takedown attempt.
First throws a leg kick but Hopper moved away.
First shoots for a takedown but Hopper saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
First shoots in for a double leg but Hopper sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Tyson Hopper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Infamous First.
Hopper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but First paws at him with a jab and circles away.

First closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hopper wants to take the fight to the mat but First manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
First tries to pull guard but Hopper holds him up against the cage and eventually First drops back down to his feet.
Hopper tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hopper is trying to break free.
First misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Hopper wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hopper tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hopper working hard to break the clinch.

Hopper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

First drives through and clinches with Hopper against the cage.
Hopper stops a takedown attempt from First.
Hopper tries to break free but First pushes him back against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Hopper - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

First ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. First no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

First is looking for a triangle but Hopper pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

First looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
First is breathing heavily.
Hopper throws a big elbow that misses.
Hopper trying to control but First is working from the bottom.
Hopper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
First is wriggling around but Hopper manages to pass to half guard.
First keeping control of the position.
First trying to control from the bottom.
First is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Hopper is staying active.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Infamous First hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
First throws a head kick that misses.
First shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hopper sprawls well. Hopper wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. First gets slowly back to his feet.

First has Hopper up against the cage in a clinch.
Hopper will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning First up against the cage.
Hopper misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from First.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hopper stalls.
Hopper is trying to drag First to the mat but First just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Infamous First showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Hopper throws a head kick but First moves out of range.

First fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hopper, pushing him back against the cage.
Hopper tries to break the clinch but First is controlling the position.

Hopper has dropped down and is working for a takedown. First is trying to keep an underhook but Hopper manages to get the takedown into half guard.
First trying to control here.
Hopper is keen to just control but First is a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
First moves into full guard.
First looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Infamous First has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
First looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hopper is fending him off so far but First persists. Nope, Hopper circles away and we're back to standing.
Infamous First seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
First shoots and misses
and Hopper counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
First throws an off balance right hand
and Hopper counters with a head kick. That will keep First thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
First tries a head kick but it misses.

First with a poor takedown
and Hopper counters with a big head kick but First shrugs it off.
Tyson Hopper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Infamous First.
First takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

First rushes Hopper and presses him up against the cage.
Hopper drops down looking for an ankle pick but First pulls his leg out and moves away.

First gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
First misses with a punch on the inside.

Hopper breaks the clinch.
First throws a lazy right hand but Hopper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Hopper lands a jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
First tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hopper swivels and escapes.
First shoots in looking for a takedown but Hopper manages to keep the fight standing, pushing First's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
First shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hopper defends it nicely.
Tyson Hopper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No luck for First with that takedown attempt.

Hopper rushes First and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
First wants to get back to striking at distance but Hopper won't allow it.
First has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hopper after a bit of a struggle.
First gets underhooks to prevent Hopper's takedown attempt.
First looking to stall.

Hopper has picked First up - he's going for a ride! Hopper dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Hopper thows a huge punch but First dodges it nicely.
Infamous First has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hopper not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hopper lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Tyson Hopper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Infamous First is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
First blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hopper.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tyson Hopper.
Well First has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
