PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Biles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ritchie Blackmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blackmore has chosen 16th century greensleeves as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Biles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ritchie Blackmore!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Biles moves out of range of the strikes.
Biles looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Blackmore misses with a left hand

and Biles counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Blackmore bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Biles's guard.


Blackmore avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Biles is breathing heavily.
Blackmore throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Biles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blackmore is stalling in the full guard.
Blackmore is continuing to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blackmore's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Blackmore got a little sloppy there for a moment and Biles has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Blackmore has managed to get both his arms back between Biles's legs - danger averted.
Blackmore slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Blackmore has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Biles looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Blackmore passes into side control.
Blackmore is looking to take a break and control but Biles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Biles is looking to reverse the position.
Blackmore lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Biles down.
Biles tries to buck Blackmore off but Blackmore is having none of it.
Blackmore remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Blackmore lands a decent elbow from side control.

Check out the look on Blackmore's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Blackmore really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Biles. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Blackmore is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Blackmore scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Biles to see if he's OK.

Biles is trying to get back to half guard.

Blackmore decides to stand up, so the ref orders Biles to his feet.
Biles seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Biles drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Blackmore is on top in guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Biles has his foot on Blackmore's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Blackmore works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ritchie Blackmore dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Blackmore leaves Biles with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Blackmore keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Blackmore throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

enabling Blackmore to counter with a crisp jab.


It looks like Ryan Biles has been cut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Biles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Blackmore swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Biles staying out of range there.
Blackmore looks to throw the jab but Biles is out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blackmore tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Biles was well out of range. Poor timing from Blackmore.
Blackmore throws a hook but Biles avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Blackmore is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Biles flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Biles is out cold! Blackmore holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ritchie Blackmore!
During a confident post fight interview, Ritchie Blackmore thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
