PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Luke Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Saurus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Luke Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Frank Saurus!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Chad Campbell and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jones lands a nice leg kick that just misses Saurus's sensitive parts.
Jones tries to land a front kick but Saurus steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Jones takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Saurus is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
We've been hearing that Jones has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Saurus is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Jones works to advance to full mount. Saurus defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
You get the feeling that Saurus really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Saurus throws a hook but Jones avoids it easily.

Saurus chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jones can pounce on him.

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Saurus pushes Jones off and scrambles back to his feet.
Jones throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Saurus's head.

Jones fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Saurus takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Saurus throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Jones feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Saurus's calf.
Saurus throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.

Saurus can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Saurus tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jones defends well and Saurus ends up having to push Jones into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Saurus felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
