PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cary Harding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonzalez has chosen Burn Halo - Save Me as his entrance music. Luis Gonzalez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cary Harding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luis Gonzalez!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harding circles away from the clinch attempt

and Harding counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Gonzalez pulls Harding into guard.

Gonzalez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gonzalez is wriggling around but Harding manages to pass to half guard.
Harding stops Gonzalez from getting back to his feet.

Harding is thwarting Gonzalez's attempts to control the position.
Gonzalez wants to get back to full guard but Harding has passed into side control.
Gonzalez looking for a sweep but Harding has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Gonzalez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Harding prevents Gonzalez from improving his position.

A close round but Luis Gonzalez will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Harding gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harding lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
I would not like to be Gonzalez right now.

Gonzalez breaks Harding's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Gonzalez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gonzalez is breathing heavily.

Gonzalez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Harding has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gonzalez has managed to get both his arms back between Harding's legs - danger averted.
Harding tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Harding has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gonzalez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Harding doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Gonzalez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Harding is keeping the position for now.
Gonzalez wants to stand but Harding is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cary Harding dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


A head kick misses from Gonzalez.

Gonzalez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Harding did well to prevent Gonzalez getting side control.
Harding tries to roll over but Gonzalez keeps him under control.
Gonzalez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Harding's head.
Harding has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gonzalez is working away from the top position though.
Harding is trying to get back to full guard.

Harding flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Gonzalez uses his free foot to push down on Harding's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Harding.
Harding is trying desperately to improve position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gonzalez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The referee warns Harding that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Gonzalez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Luis Gonzalez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Harding has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Harding staying busy and making it hard for Gonzalez to control.

Gonzalez has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Harding has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Harding is trying to get back to his feet but Gonzalez has full control of the position and if anything, Harding has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Harding looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Harding rolls, trying to escape but Gonzalez keeps control of the position.

Gonzalez biding his time, looking for the opening.

Harding manages to reverse the position and now he's in Gonzalez's guard. Nice work there by Harding.
Gonzalez has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Harding has passed into side control.
Gonzalez is trying to get back to half guard.
Gonzalez is trying to control Harding's posture but Harding avoids it.

Gonzalez struggling a bit here.

Harding goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gonzalez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Harding but great work by Gonzalez.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harding is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gonzalez off and has taken his back!

Luis Gonzalez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gonzalez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
