PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jordon Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Spears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Charles Spears!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Campbell circles away from the clinch attempt.
Campbell takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A head kick misses from Spears.
Spears misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Spears tries to bum rush Campbell with a series of wild strikes but Campbell uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Spears tries to clinch
and Campbell counters with a slapping leg kick.

Campbell forces Spears back against the cage and clinches.
A frustrated look appears on Spears's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Campbell keeps control of Spears as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Spears lands a right hand.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Campbell successfully pulls guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Spears sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Spears trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Campbell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Spears regains half guard.
Spears is controlling Campbell's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Campbell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Spears throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Campbell manages to pass to side control.

Campbell is putting a hurting on Spears here, landing some big shots from side control.
Spears dodges the ground and pound from Campbell.

Campbell throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Campbell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Spears doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Campbell.
Campbell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Campbell tries for a takedown but Spears sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Campbell counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Campbell takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Charles Spears seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Spears misses with a jab, cross combination.
Spears tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Campbell counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close round but Charles Spears will probably get the nod.

Campbell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Spears pinned against the cage. Spears gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Spears is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Campbell shoots for a double leg takedown but Spears sprawls well. He's pushed Campbell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Campbell takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Charles Spears is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Spears throws a right and a left that Campbell avoids nicely.

and Campbell counters with a nice low kick that buckles Spears's knee momentarily.
Spears is breathing heavily.

Campbell closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Spears did well to prevent Campbell getting side control.
Campbell is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Spears pushes Campbell off looking to stand but Campbell dives back in and keeps control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Campbell lands a nice short elbow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Spears moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Campbell lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Campbell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Spears trying to keep a closed guard but Campbell is proving a slippery customer.
Spears wants to stand but Campbell is controlling the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Spears is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spears escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Campbell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Campbell postures up in Spears's guard and throws a big left but Spears blocks it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Spears is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Charles Spears will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Campbell trying to control the position but instead, Spears has worked for underhooks and has pushed Campbell into the cage.

Campbell is looking to control Spears's arms but Spears gets an underhook and turns him. Now Campbell has his back to the cage.

Spears misses with a low kick as Campbell jumps back.

Spears will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
