PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luther Lamel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Merridew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lamel might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Blk & Blu. Jack Merridew told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luther Lamel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Merridew!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merridew lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Merridew swings for the body but Lamel moves out of range.
Lamel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Merridew manages to avoid it.
Merridew misses with an uppercut. Lamel saw that one coming.
Lamel on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Merridew uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lamel.
We've been told by Lamel's head coaches at We Are Legion that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Lamel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Lamel throws a big shot that misses.
Lamel throws a shot from downtown. Merridew moves away and avoids it.
Lamel throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lamel comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Lamel takes a swing at Merridew's ribcage but misses.
Lamel throws a series of punches but Merridew moves out of range.
Lamel takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Lamel throws a combination that misses
and Merridew connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Merridew tests Lamel's chin there with a solid looking shot.


It looks like Luther Lamel has been cut.
Merridew avoids a punch combination nicely.

Merridew cracks Lamel with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Lamel looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Merridew finish him?


Lamel is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lamel walks straight into a right hand from Merridew - that's dropped him! Merridew jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Lamel from any more punishment! Lamel complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jack Merridew!
Jack Merridew seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
The defeated Luther Lamel had this to say: 'I'll be back'.
