PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Laurence Lowery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Tsui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Laurence Lowery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sam Tsui!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tsui shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lowery's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Tsui throwing strikes from guard but Lowery blocks nicely.
Tsui stands up over Lowery, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Tsui postures up in Lowery's guard and throws a big left but Lowery blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tsui trying to control the position from guard on top but Lowery is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lowery utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tsui has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Tsui seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Tsui throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lowery works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tsui wants to pass the guard but Lowery is keeping the position.
Lowery has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Tsui is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Lowery tries to strike from the bottom.
Tsui lands a couple of digs.
Lowery wants to stand and escape but Tsui is having none of it.
Tsui wants to control from the top but Lowery keeps moving.
Tsui passes Lowery's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Tsui is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Tsui thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lowery's head.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Tsui wants to pass the guard but Lowery is defending well.
Lowery trying to control but Tsui postures up.
Tsui trying to control from half guard but Lowery is working away.
Lowery wants to improve his position but Tsui is controlling well.
Tsui has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tsui pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Tsui trying to control but Lowery is having none of it.

Tsui takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tsui is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lowery is surviving well by controlling Tsui's body position as best he can.
Tsui lands a heavy elbow.
Lowery is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Tsui working the ground and pound effectively.
Tsui postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lowery looks a forlorn figure.
Lowery is wriggling around trying to escape.

Lowery is bucking up trying to escape but Tsui cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Lowery is trying desperately to improve position.
Tsui lands a heavy elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tsui lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Lowery is rocked!
Tsui landing punches.
Oh Lowery is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Tsui drops a big elbow. That's hurt Lowery! More shots from Tsui and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
