PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hiilo Rodrigo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo comes into the arena with Jedi Mind Tricks- The Philosophy of Horror blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kent's choice of entrance music: I'll be Back. The key to victory for Hiilo Rodrigo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hiilo Rodrigo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 18 - 3, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Kent!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Rodrigo misses.
Rodrigo pushes Kent away with a front kick.

Kent bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kent working away.
Rodrigo sneaks back into half guard.
Kent controlling the action here.

Rodrigo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kent pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kent wants to control but Rodrigo is keeping him busy.
Kent takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kent controlling the pace.

Rodrigo is trying to control but can't.
Kent thows a huge punch but Rodrigo dodges it nicely.
Kent wants to take a breather but Rodrigo is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Peter Kent.
Rodrigo throws a leg kick but Kent sees it coming and moves out of range.
Kent walks into a left hand.
Kent misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rodrigo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rodrigo digs a good hook to Kent's body.
Rodrigo throws a good cross that connects.
Rodrigo scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Rodrigo lands a body shot.
Kent moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kent checks a leg kick nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rodrigo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Kent walks forward, straight into a front kick from Rodrigo.
Rodrigo looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Kent darts in looking for a takedown but Rodrigo gets double underhooks and turns Kent into the cage.
Hiilo Rodrigo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Kent.
Rodrigo prevents a takedown attempt there.
A head punch on the inside from Rodrigo fails to land.
Kent tries to pull guard but Rodrigo forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Kent with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Kent has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rodrigo is trying to keep an underhook but Kent manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Kent is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Rodrigo wants to control but Kent is keeping busy.
Kent looks to land a strike but Rodrigo avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kent accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Rodrigo throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rodrigo trying to keep a closed guard but Kent is proving a slippery customer.
Kent trying to control the position from guard on top but Rodrigo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rodrigo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kent is one step ahead there.
Kent trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kent postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Peter Kent.

Rodrigo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rodrigo wants to advance to full mount but Kent doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Rodrigo trying to control but Kent is working from the bottom.
Kent bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rodrigo's guard.
Rodrigo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rodrigo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kent gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kent trying to control but Rodrigo is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hiilo Rodrigo dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Rodrigo ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kent shoots in looking for a takedown. Rodrigo tries to sprawl out of it but Kent keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rodrigo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rodrigo connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Rodrigo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rodrigo showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kent is staying active underneath Rodrigo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rodrigo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Rodrigo working over Kent with some ground and pound. Kent looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Rodrigo is working for a submission of some sort.
We've been hearing that Rodrigo has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Kent blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rodrigo.

Kent looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Rodrigo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kent tries to get to full guard but Rodrigo has control of the leg.
Kent is holding on to half guard well.
Kent is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rodrigo scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rodrigo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Rodrigo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kent is trying to stand back up but Rodrigo is controlling him
Rodrigo is keen to just control but Kent is a slippery customer.
Hiilo Rodrigo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rodrigo lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rodrigo throws a strike but Kent avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kent keeping moving, preventing Rodrigo from controlling successfully.

Kent is looking to cinch up a triangle. Rodrigo throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Kent's body to avoid the submission. Kent has instead reached around Rodrigo's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Kent arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Peter Kent!
Our winner, Peter Kent, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
