PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Louis Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Klinton Howith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Louis Guy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Klinton Howith!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Howith lands in his opponent's guard.
Howith pushes down on Guy's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Guy trying to hold on to Howith's head to control him but Howith postures up.
Howith controlling the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guy is looking to improve his position.
Howith controlling the pace.

Klinton Howith has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Guy gets tackled into the cage by Howith. Howith maintains the clinch.
Guy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Howith pulls his leg out and moves away.
Howith throws a lazy head kick
and Guy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Klinton Howith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Howith rushes Guy and presses him up against the cage.
Guy tries to throw a body punch but Howith avoids it by throwing Guy back against the cage.
Howith gets underhooks to prevent Guy's takedown attempt.

Howith pulls guard effortlessly.
Howith pulls Guy in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Howith wants to sweep here but Guy controlling him for the moment.
Howith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Guy manages to get himself to full guard.
Howith slips nicely into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Guy avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Howith.
Howith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Guy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Howith on the ground.
Howith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Guy's head.

Howith is taking a breather. Guy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Guy is looking to control Howith's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Guy avoid being mounted?

Howith is trying to work for a kimura but Guy is defending well.
It looks like Howith is going to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Howith trying to control the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Klinton Howith wasn't active enough on the ground.
Guy tries to clinch but Howith moves away
and Howith counters with a nice body kick.
Guy is breathing heavily.

Howith shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Guy is trying to defend but Howith finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Howith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Howith content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Klinton Howith dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.

Howith jumps into guard, dragging Guy to the mat.
Howith manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Howith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Howith with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Guy avoids a series of strikes thrown by Howith.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guy blocking the ground and pound.
Howith is landing with some decent strikes but Guy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.


It looks like Louis Guy has been cut.
Howith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Howith wants to control the pace but Guy is squirming around nicely.
Klinton Howith has got the better of the ground game so far.
Guy avoids a series of strikes thrown by Howith.

Howith moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Guy has worked his arm free - good work by Guy!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Howith controls the position from side control.

Guy is looking for a sweep.
Howith tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Howith decides to stand back up.
Guy moves in looking to clinch but Howith pushes him off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guy tries to clinch but Howith moves out of range.
Howith misses with a head kick.
Guy wants to clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Guy enables Howith to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Guy manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Howith controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Howith with a flurry of punches that miss.
Howith not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Klinton Howith wasn't active enough on the ground.

Howith looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Howith is trying to control. Guy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Howith stands up out of the half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Howith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Howith stands up from Guy's guard - Howith perhaps looking for a knockout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Howith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Guy's half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Klinton Howith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Louis Guy's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Guy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Howith but Howith pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Howith rushes Guy and presses him up against the cage.
Howith prevents a takedown attempt there.
Come on Howith - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Guy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Howith pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Louis Guy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Guy is fighting off a takedown attempt but Howith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Guy to the mat. Guy regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Guy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Howith's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Klinton Howith hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Howith digs a good hook to Guy's body.
Howith lands a nice leg kick that just misses Guy's sensitive parts.

Guy tries to keep at a distance but Howith has taken the fight into the clinch.

Howith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Howith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Guy is fighting to break Howith's control of his arms but Howith is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Howith is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Howith decides to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Howith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Guy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Howith not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Let's hope that Howith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Howith stands up from Guy's guard - Howith perhaps looking for a knockout.

Howith moves into the clinch.
Guy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Howith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Howith has Guy pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Howith pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Guy tumbling to the mat - Howith dives into Guy's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Howith passes Guy's left leg - he's now in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Klinton Howith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Howith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
