PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ding Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ying Yang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ding Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ying Yang!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dong throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Yang is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dong pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Dong throws a series of punches but Yang moves out of range.
Nice straight punches there by Dong. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Dong.
The crowd cheers as Dong lands an impressive looking overhand right. Yang doesn't seem phased though.
Yang shoots in looking for a takedown but Dong manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Yang's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Yang clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dong struggles to land a body shot inside as Yang controls his hands.

Yang breaks from the clinch.
Dong scores with a kick to the midsection.
Dong has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gracie Barra Hilo (Sauna + Bang for your Buck) in the buildup to the fight.
Dong keeps the fight on the outside.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yang shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dong as he jumps to the side.
Dong fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Dong lands a glancing blow to the side of Yang's head.
Yang shoots in but Dong avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ding Dong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ying Yang.
Dong lands a front kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Yang.
Ying Yang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yang tries to close the distance and clinch but Dong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dong throws a series of punches but Yang moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dong throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Yang.
Yang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dong swivels and escapes.
Dong misses with a wild body shot.
Yang takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Yang tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dong defends well and Yang ends up having to push Dong into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Yang pushes off an throws an elbow but Dong leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Yang is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Dong digs a right hand underneath Yang's ribcage. Yang let out a lung full of air as it connected.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Yang breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dong misses the shot to the body.
Yang tries to close the distance and clinch but Dong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Yang throws a head kick but Dong moves out of range.
Ding Dong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Yang fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dong to the ground. Yang is now in Dong's guard.
Yang prevents Dong from getting back to his feet.
Yang trying to control the position from guard on top but Dong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dong wants to stand and escape but Yang is having none of it.
Dong is wriggling around but Yang manages to pass to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yang sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dong defending well though.
Dong wants to stand back up but Yang manages to pass into side control.
Dong is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Yang tries for a kimura but Dong is defending well.
Yang works to advance to full mount. Dong defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ding Dong dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Yang gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Yang is pushing Dong up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Dong misses with a knee strike.
Yang wants to take the fight to the mat but Dong manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Dong controlling the action here for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yang tries to pull guard but Dong forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Yang tries to stall but Dong uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Dong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Yang can do to turn this around?

Yang is trying to pull guard but Dong turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Ding Dong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ying Yang.
Yang lands a shot to the body.
Dong avoiding damage.
Yang is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Yang wants a takedown but no success here.

Yang has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Dong is trying to keep an underhook but Yang manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Dong is trying to stand up here but Yang is controlling him well.

Yang is looking to take a break and control but Dong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yang controlling the pace.

Yang gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Dong throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Yang.
Dong is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Yang closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dong's guard.
Yang is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Yang wants to control from the top but Dong keeps moving.

Yang stops Dong from standing up.

Dong scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Dong really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Dong throws a right hand that Yang ducks under and follows up with a left that Yang also avoids with ease.
Dong scores with a nice body kick.
Yang shoots in looking for a takedown. Dong tries to sprawl out of it but Yang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dong manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yang shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dong as he jumps to the side.
Dong displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Yang.
Dong fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Yang manages to avoid it.
Dong bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Yang shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dong is trying to defend but Yang finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Yang is breathing heavily.
Yang prevents Dong from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ying Yang will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Yang shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Yang or perhaps it was just good defense by Dong, which made it look bad.
Dong lands a nice looking body shot.
Dong misses with the combination.
No luck for Yang with that takedown attempt.
Ding Dong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ying Yang.
Dong lands a jab to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dong lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yang circles away quickly and effectively.
Decent striking displayed by Dong there.

Yang shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Yang takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dong will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dong lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Yang uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dong.

Yang gets a takedown into half guard.
Dong blocking the ground and pound attempt from Yang.

Yang is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dong is looking to get back to is feet but Yang passes into side control.
Yang wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dong keeps working.
Dong trying to remain calm as Yang controls from the top position.
Yang wants to control but Dong is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yang controls the position.
Dong wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Dong prevents Yang from improving position.
Yang taking a breather here.
Dong is looking to get back to his feet here but Yang is keeping cool and he's managed to take Dong's back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dong is trapped and Yang is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Yang patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Yang is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Dong is defending well though. Yang let's go of the attempt for now.
Can Dong hold on?! Yang is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Ying Yang has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yang lands a shot to the head.
Yang gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ying Yang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Yang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
