PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Major Mcconnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sheldon Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheldon Cooper will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Major Mcconnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sheldon Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Mcconnell tries to sprawl but Cooper drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mcconnell won't allow Cooper to pass to mount.
Cooper thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mcconnell's head.
Cooper is keen to just control but Mcconnell is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooper prevents Mcconnell from standing back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sheldon Cooper wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cooper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cooper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Cooper wants to stand but Mcconnell is controlling his arm.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cooper swings around for an armbar but Mcconnell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cooper's guard.

Mcconnell wanted to stand there but Cooper had control of the position.
Cooper tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cooper looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mcconnell puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Mcconnell with the ground and pound but Cooper uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Mcconnell distracts Cooper with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Cooper is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cooper is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Mcconnell presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Mcconnell is looking to take this one to the mat.
Cooper is trying to force a seperation but Mcconnell has the dominant position.
Cooper gets underhooks to prevent Mcconnell's takedown attempt.

Cooper has clasped his hands together around Mcconnell's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cooper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcconnell keeps working.

Cooper has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mcconnell darts in trying to clinch
and Cooper counters with a head kick. That will keep Mcconnell thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Cooper tries to clinch up but Mcconnell circles away and keeps his distance.
Cooper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mcconnell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Cooper gets the takedown into side control.
The referee asks Cooper politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cooper prefers to stall for the moment though.
Cooper with the ground and pound but Mcconnell regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Cooper working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Mcconnell's thigh. Mcconnell counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Cooper is looking to stand up but Mcconnell won't let him.
Mcconnell trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cooper is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mcconnell has his hands on Cooper's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sheldon Cooper dominated that round.
That's time! Mcconnell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mcconnell moves in looking to clinch but Cooper pushes him off.
Major Mcconnell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cooper wants to clinch up but Mcconnell keeps it at a distance.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcconnell enables Cooper to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcconnell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Mcconnell has Cooper pulled in close to control his posture.
Cooper wants to get up but he can't break Mcconnell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cooper throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mcconnell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Cooper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cooper stays in close to Mcconnell's body and controls the position.

Major Mcconnell has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Cooper tries to clinch but Mcconnell moves out of range.
Mcconnell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Cooper gets the takedown into side control.
Mcconnell wants to control but Cooper postures up.

Cooper goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mcconnell rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cooper's guard! Nice work there by Mcconnell!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcconnell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mcconnell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cooper is proving hard to escape from.
Cooper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mcconnell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mcconnell chips away with some ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mcconnell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Mcconnell wants to stand but Cooper is controlling his posture from full guard.
Sheldon Cooper has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mcconnell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mcconnell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cooper is proving hard to escape from.

Mcconnell with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Cooper had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mcconnell defends it easily.

Mcconnell lands a couple of elbows.

Cooper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mcconnell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cooper is breathing heavily.
Cooper has a closed guard, preventing Mcconnell from standing up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mcconnell lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Major Mcconnell will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Cooper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mcconnell tries to close the distance and clinch but Cooper swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sheldon Cooper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cooper lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cooper.


It looks like Major Mcconnell has been cut.

Cooper closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mcconnell quickly recovers to half guard.
Cooper is trying to control the action in half guard but Mcconnell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mcconnell is trying to stand back up but Cooper is controlling him
Mcconnell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cooper is pressing down on Mcconnell's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mcconnell is holding on for now.

Cooper is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sheldon Cooper.
Mcconnell swats away the attempt to clinch by Cooper.

Cooper scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cooper takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mcconnell tries to kick Cooper off but Cooper keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Cooper is stalling here. Mcconnell is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cooper seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mcconnell has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Cooper is looking to regain half guard here but Mcconnell keeps moving and retains side control.

Mcconnell stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Cooper takes a swing at Mcconnell's ribcage but misses.
Mcconnell wants to clinch.
Cooper tries a head kick but it misses.

Cooper closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mcconnell to the mat! Mcconnell manages to get full guard.
Cooper wants to get up but he can't break Mcconnell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Cooper forces Mcconnell back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mcconnell jumps guard and drags Cooper to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Mcconnell pushes Cooper off and scrambles back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sheldon Cooper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cooper has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
