PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darce Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilson has chosen Sitting on Top of the World - Chris Goss & the Forest Rangers as his entrance music. Darce Wilson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George McCarthy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darce Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarthy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wilson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by McCarthy.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
McCarthy taking a break here but Wilson is having none of it and regains half guard.
Wilson is trying to maintain the position but McCarthy is very close to passing his half guard.
Wilson is staying active underneath McCarthy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
McCarthy throws a strike but Wilson avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
McCarthy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

McCarthy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wilson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wilson pulls McCarthy in close to his closed guard and prevents McCarthy from doing any damage or advancing position.
Wilson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McCarthy's guard.

McCarthy controls Wilson momentarily but Wilson frees himself.
McCarthy is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wilson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

McCarthy wants to sweep here but Wilson controlling him for the moment.
Wilson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

McCarthy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wilson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. McCarthy is in Wilson's guard.
McCarthy wants to control from the top but Wilson keeps moving.

Wilson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McCarthy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McCarthy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McCarthy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wilson on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wilson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McCarthy defends it easily.

McCarthy trying to stand up but can't free himself from Wilson's guard.
McCarthy wants to control from the top but Wilson keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wilson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Wilson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. George McCarthy wasn't doing enough on the ground.
McCarthy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wilson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McCarthy slaps away a takedown attempt from Wilson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
McCarthy throws a sloppy head kick and Wilson moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that George McCarthy will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



McCarthy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCarthy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wilson is keeping the position for now.
McCarthy looking to sit in guard and control but Wilson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

McCarthy is trying to control but can't.

Wilson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wilson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wilson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Wilson wants to lay and pray for a moment but McCarthy keeps working.
Wilson fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The ground and pound from Wilson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Wilson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Wilson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Wilson wants to lay and pray for a moment but McCarthy keeps working.

Darce Wilson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


McCarthy tries to close the distance and clinch but Wilson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
McCarthy attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

McCarthy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wilson dives on top into guard.

Wilson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wilson is on top in guard.
Wilson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed McCarthy's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

I would just about give that final round to Darce Wilson.
I think Wilson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
