Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raphael Paiva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romo da Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Paiva might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Breaveheart Soundtrack. da Silva has chosen Aijeke by Wyrd as his entrance music. Romo da Silva looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raphael Paiva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romo da Silva!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Paiva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
da Silva isn't going anywhere.
Paiva tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
da Silva tries to bench press Paiva off him but Paiva keeps the position.
Paiva scores with punches from side control.
Paiva tries to advance to mount but da Silva denies him.
You can see the frustration on da Silva's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Paiva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Paiva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Paiva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
da Silva wants to control but Paiva postures up.

da Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Paiva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Paiva tries to score with some ground and pound. da Silva controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

da Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Paiva paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Paiva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says da Silva as he avoids it easily.

Paiva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. da Silva sprawls well initially but Paiva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Paiva counters with a single leg into guard. da Silva didn't expect that.
da Silva is trying to control the position but Paiva postures up.
Paiva stands and throws da Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Paiva connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused da Silva some visible discomfort.

Paiva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but da Silva is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

da Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
da Silva is squirming around, avoiding Paiva's attempts to control the action.

Paiva has control of da Silva's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and da Silva regains control of the situation pretty easily.

da Silva is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Paiva has hold of da Silva's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and da Silva manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Paiva is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. da Silva is in real trouble.

Paiva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Paiva cracks a nice hook into da Silva's ribs.

Paiva is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
da Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
da Silva wants to control from the top but Paiva keeps moving.

Paiva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

da Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paiva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Paiva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Paiva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
