PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Spring (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruno Carnacales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carnacales has chosen Amazing as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jerry Spring!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Carnacales!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spring shoots for a double leg takedown but Carnacales sprawls well. He's pushed Spring's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carnacales looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Spring closes the distance and clinches up with Carnacales, looking for a takedown. Spring pushes Carnacales against the cage but Carnacales circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Spring shoots for a double leg takedown but Carnacales sprawls well. He's pushed Spring's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerry Spring. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spring closes the distance and clinches up with Carnacales, looking for a takedown. Spring pushes Carnacales against the cage but Carnacales circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Spring lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Spring shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carnacales as he avoids it easily.

Spring avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Spring clinches but Carnacales breaks the clinch

and Carnacales counters by moving into the clinch.
Carnacales unloads a knee to the mid-section. Spring lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Spring drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Spring wants to stall.
Carnacales stops a takedown attempt from Spring.
Spring on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Spring tries for a takedown. No joy.
Carnacales taking a breather.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Spring just misses with a elbow thrown towards Carnacales's brow.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Spring is trying to break the clinch but Carnacales has him pressed against the cage.
Spring tries to break the clinch but Carnacales is controlling the position.
Spring wants to break free but Carnacales has control.
Spring lands with a right to the head.

Spring pulls guard successfully.
Carnacales is fighting to break Spring's control of his arms but Spring is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Carnacales is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.
Carnacales trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Spring manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Spring is stalling in the full guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Carnacales counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carnacales.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Carnacales manages to break the clinch.
Spring misses with a takedown

and Carnacales counters by moving into the clinch.
Carnacales blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Spring has Carnacales pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Carnacales manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Spring is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Carnacales ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carnacales no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Carnacales trying to keep a closed guard but Spring is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Spring trying to stand up but can't free himself from Carnacales's guard.

Spring stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carnacales swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carnacales really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spring. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Spring wants to control from the top but Carnacales keeps moving.

Spring stands and steps away. Carnacales gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Carnacales stuffs the takedown.
Spring shoots in but Carnacales avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Spring gets caught flat footed, as Carnacales shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Spring looking to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spring has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Carnacales has passed into side control.

Carnacales goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Spring has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Carnacales but great work by Spring.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruno Carnacales showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

and Carnacales counters with a big head kick but Spring shrugs it off.
Spring tries for a takedown but Carnacales sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Spring wants to clinch but Carnacales slips to the side

and Carnacales counters by moving into the clinch.
Carnacales tries for a takedown. No joy.
Carnacales jumps guard but Spring stands there with Carnacales around his waist. Carnacales gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Spring can't break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carnacales is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Spring wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Spring wants to break free but Carnacales has control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Spring has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carnacales avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Spring breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Spring fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Spring will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Carnacales keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Carnacales.
Spring tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carnacales wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Spring is not content to let Carnacales control the position.

Carnacales is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Spring knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Spring taking punishment in the form of punches.
Carnacales is looking to take a break and control but Spring is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Spring is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Spring is refusing to be controlled, as Carnacales sits in half guard.
Carnacales blocks the strikes from Spring.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruno Carnacales comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Carnacales has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
