The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Newer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Newer tries to free his leg and advance position but Ferguson is retaining full guard.

Newer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Newer wants to get up but he can't break Ferguson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ferguson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Newer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Newer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ferguson keeps working.
