Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vernon Cook!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Koff!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cook clinches up against the cage.
Cook misses with a punch to the body.
Koff jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cook walks away with a smile on his face. Koff gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Cook tries to bum rush Koff with a series of wild strikes but Koff uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cook jabs Koff to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Koff takes one on the button.
Jab from Cook.
Cook scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Koff checks the leg kick.

Koff dives in and scores a takedown into Cook's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cook is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Koff trying to control the position from guard on top but Cook is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Koff looking to pass the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cook working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Koff.
Koff wants to control from the top but Cook keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koff working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Koff is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Koff trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Koff moves away from the strike by Cook.
Cook scores with a jab to the body.

Koff closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cook's guard.
Cook has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cook keeping moving, preventing Koff from controlling successfully.
Koff won't allow Cook to sweep him here.
Koff wants to pass the guard but Cook is keeping the position.
Koff looking to sit in guard and control but Cook gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Koff looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cook puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cook is looking to stall here but Koff recovers full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Koff tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Koff is looking for a triangle but Cook pushes his legs off easily.
Koff keeping moving, preventing Cook from controlling successfully.
Cook stays in close to Koff's body and controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Koff has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Cook doesn't defend quickly enough and Koff has managed to lock this one up! Can Cook escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Koff on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bob Koff!
Bob Koff is the new light heavyweight champion!
After winning the bout, Bob Koff thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
