The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The ground and pound from Cruz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Fighter gets back to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cruz connects with a nice short shot to Fighter's temple.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cruz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fighter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cruz has managed to get both his arms back between Fighter's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cruz is sitting in close to Fighter's body. Fighter has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Cruz is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Cruz is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Fighter.
