The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kolyan takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Vargas fails to land with a series of punches.
Vargas avoids the head kick by Kolyan.
Vargas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kolyan tries a head kick but it misses.
Vargas tries to clinch there but Kolyan circles away.
Vargas scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Edgar Kolyan has been cut.
Vargas shoots in looking for a takedown. Kolyan tries to sprawl out of it but Vargas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kolyan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fight stays on the outside here - Vargas looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Vargas ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Vargas looks to score with a jab to the body but Kolyan is just out of range.
Vargas throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Kolyan throws a sloppy head kick and Vargas moves out of range easily.

Francisco Vargas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kolyan fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Kolyan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vargas shoots in for a takedown but Kolyan shows good takedown defense.
Kolyan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kolyan throws a head kick but Vargas moves out of range.
Kolyan doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Vargas shoots in for a double leg but Kolyan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Vargas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Vargas tries to clinch but Kolyan moves out of range.
Vargas tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kolyan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Kolyan as Vargas shoots in.
Vargas blocks a head kick by Kolyan.

Vargas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Vargas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Vargas is breathing heavily.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kolyan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Vargas has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Vargas lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vargas is looking to take a break and control but Kolyan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Vargas is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Kolyan is trying to escape and Vargas transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Kolyan is forced to tap! Nice work there by Vargas! Very nice indeed!
