The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
matthews scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
matthews really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Strummer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
matthews is looking to advance position but Strummer won't allow it.
matthews wants to lay and pray for a moment but Strummer keeps working.

matthews seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Strummer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

matthews shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Strummer's guard.

Strummer had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. matthews is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Strummer Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take matthews's back instead.
Strummer is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. matthews knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften matthews for a finish.
matthews is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Strummer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

matthews is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Strummer off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Strummer has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, matthews has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
