PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien OQuinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). OQuinn is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by King Gordy - Damian. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damien OQuinn!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Chris Dean and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OQuinn blocks a jab.

Johnson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Johnson lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
OQuinn is pushing Johnson's head away, looking to escape. Johnson manages to hold on to the position though.
Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Johnson throws an elbow but OQuinn slips to the side and avoids it well.
Johnson wants to control but OQuinn is keeping him busy.
OQuinn is trying to improve his position.
Johnson is chipping away with strikes.
OQuinn is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Johnson has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Johnson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if OQuinn can do anything to dispel that myth.
OQuinn tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Johnson controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
OQuinn is trying to stand back up.
Johnson connects with a big shot to the side of OQuinn's head.

OQuinn won't enjoy being in this position. Johnson looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - OQuinn is tapping - it's over boys! Johnson picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). John Johnson!
In defeat, Damien OQuinn stepped up to the mic, saying 'I just had back surgery, knee surgery,cracked ribs and i was so baked, but good job to my opponent'.
