PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roy Oliveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Unit Four (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Unit Four was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roy Oliveira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Unit Four!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Four circles away from the clinch attempt.
Oliveira wants to slow Four down by chopping away at his legs.
Four shoots for a double leg takedown but Oliveira sprawls well. He's pushed Four's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Oliveira feints and as Four raises his hands in defense, Oliveira changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Oliveira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Four swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Four tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Four lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Four postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Four slips nicely into half guard.
Four is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

It looks like Four might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Four is controlling the pace.
Four is nestled in close to Oliveira, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Oliveira pushes Four off looking to stand but Four dives back in and keeps control.
Oliveira is not content to let Four control the position.
Oliveira knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Four on the ground.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Unit Four hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Oliveira closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Four's guard.

Four is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Oliveira is controlling him.
Oliveira not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Roy Oliveira wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Oliveira tries for a takedown but Four sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close round but Unit Four will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Four shoots in looking for a takedown. Oliveira tries to sprawl out of it but Four keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Oliveira manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Four moves out of range as Oliveira strikes.

Four wants to clinch up but Oliveira keeps it at a distance.

Four tries to sprawl but Oliveira drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Four pushes Oliveira off looking to stand but Oliveira dives back in and keeps control.

Four has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Oliveira is working away from the top position though.

Oliveira thows a huge punch but Four dodges it nicely.

Oliveira wants to control but Four postures up.
Four slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Oliveira.
Oliveira is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Oliveira sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Four in particular looking to stall.

Four frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Four can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Oliveira is looking to escape.
Oliveira wants to hold on but Four pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Four looking to control but Oliveira is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Oliveira is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Unit Four will probably get the nod - 10:9.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Four enables Oliveira to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Four manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Unit Four comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Four has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
