Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Wegesin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Son might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to I WILL BE HEARD. Daniel Son could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to DJ Wegesin's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Son!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DJ Wegesin!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wegesin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Son to the mat! Son manages to get full guard.

Wegesin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Son dives on top into guard.

Wegesin has an active guard here but Son has managed to pass into half guard.
Son is looking to advance position but Wegesin won't allow it.
Son seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Wegesin has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Son escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Son!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Wegesin throws out a loose jab but Son uses good head movement to avoid it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Son looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Son stuffs the takedown attempt from Wegesin. Wegesin gets slowly back to his feet.
Wegesin swats away the attempt to clinch by Son.

Son gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Wegesin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Son prevents it.
Daniel Son has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DJ Wegesin.
Wegesin tries to pull guard but Son holds him up against the cage and eventually Wegesin drops back down to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wegesin shoots in and drives through. Son sprawls well.

Son gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wegesin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Son manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Wegesin has Son in his guard.
Wegesin looks gassed!
Son wants to control from the top but Wegesin keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Son stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wegesin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Son working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Daniel Son will probably get the nod.

Son moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Horrible takedown by Wegesin or perhaps it was just good defense by Son which made him look bad.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daniel Son.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Son, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
