PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben King!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in West's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
West working a defensive guard here.
West wants to sweep but no luck.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as West works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
King controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
King wants to control from the top but West keeps moving.
West knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for King on the ground.
King sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed West's guard.
King slows the pace down in half guard.

King seems to be looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King is keen to just control but West is a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ben King.
King fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
West gets through King's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
King misses with an elbow strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

West breaks the clinch.

West drives through with a takedown into King's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
West throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

King looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
King preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
West working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
West throws a big elbow that misses.
West preventing the sweep.
King is trying to keep West in close.
West trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
West scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
West pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. King is keeping the position for now.
West trying to control but King is working from the bottom.
West has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
West won't allow King to get back to his feet.

King is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King wants to sweep but no luck.

King is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. West presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
King tries to break the clinch but West is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A nice left hand lands by West.

King is fighting off a takedown attempt but West is just too persistent for him and manages to trip King to the mat. King regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

West gets to his feet. King looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
West misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

West rushes King and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
King throws a punch but it's blocked by West.
King using the Thai plumb to throw knees but West has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A left hand lands to the body for West.
West displaying some good clinch control by pressing King up against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ben King will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


King stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and King wants it to stay on the feet.
King shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says West as he avoids it easily.
King wants to land a leg kick but West is out of range.

West pushes King up against the cage in a clinch.
West blocks an uppercut.
King fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The referee calls for West to work.
King tries to pull guard but West holds him up against the cage and eventually King drops back down to his feet.
James West has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben King.

West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by West or perhaps it was just good defense by King, which made it look bad.
King throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
West keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
King closes this distance looking for a takedown but West circles away.
King is breathing heavily.
West keeps King at a distance using the push kick.
King wants to clinch up but West keeps it at a distance.
James West seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
West lands with a kick to the temple. King shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
King fails with a takedown attempt.

West feints and as King raises his hands in defense, West changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
West is in close to King's body, working some short punches and elbows.

West is posturing up here but King has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! West tries to roll out but it's too tight and West has to tap! Slick submission there by King!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ben King!
