Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Davis Burgess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rex Watertown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rex Watertown will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davis Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rex Watertown!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watertown scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Burgess is not content to let Watertown control the position.
Watertown tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Watertown trying to control the action but Burgess is working from the bottom.
Watertown passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Burgess!
Poor strikes thrown by Watertown there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watertown can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Burgess is looking to escape.
Burgess is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Burgess really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Watertown can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Burgess is looking to escape.
Burgess has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Watertown's lack of action.
Watertown throws a strike but Burgess avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Watertown trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Burgess manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Watertown closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Watertown thows a huge punch but Burgess dodges it nicely.

That's time! Burgess's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Burgess might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Davis Burgess.

Watertown closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burgess to the mat! Burgess manages to get full guard.

Watertown wants to control from the top but Burgess keeps moving.
Watertown throws an elbow that misses. Burgess uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Watertown's guard. Nice move by Burgess!
Watertown wants to stand but Burgess is controlling the position.
Watertown is breathing heavily.
Burgess controls from within his opponent's guard.

Watertown keeping moving, preventing Burgess from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Burgess looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Watertown looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Watertown can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rex Watertown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Burgess shoots in and drives through. Watertown sprawls well.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Watertown.
Burgess could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Burgess manages to get back to half guard.
Watertown wants to control but Burgess is keeping him busy.

Watertown is looking for a kimura but Burgess is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Watertown to get the leverage.
Watertown throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Burgess working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Watertown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Watertown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Watertown is looking to advance position but Burgess has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Watertown wants to try and get back to his feet.
Watertown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Burgess wants to control the pace but Watertown is squirming around nicely.
Watertown tries to buck Burgess off but Burgess takes his back!
Burgess is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Burgess has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Watertown wants to get back to his feet.
Davis Burgess has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rex Watertown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Davis Burgess.
Well Watertown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
