Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Archie Burks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niko Laaksonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Archie Burks has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Archie Burks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niko Laaksonen!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laaksonen blocks a head kick by Burks.
Burks displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Laaksonen.
Laaksonen misses with a hook

and Burks counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Laaksonen looking for submissions off his back.
Laaksonen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Laaksonen is pressing down on Burks's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Laaksonen has a closed guard, preventing Burks from standing up.
Laaksonen pulls Burks in close to prevent any damage.
Burks in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Laaksonen has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Burks has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Laaksonen has Burks pulled in close to control his posture.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Burks is defended easily by Laaksonen.
Laaksonen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Burks circles away.
Burks keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Archie Burks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Niko Laaksonen.
Laaksonen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Burks tries to avoid it but Laaksonen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Burks to the ground. Burks escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Burks fails with an attempt to clinch.
Burks pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Burks is looking to clinch.
Burks will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Laaksonen gets tackled into the cage by Burks. Burks maintains the clinch.
Laaksonen will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Burks up against the cage.
Laaksonen goes for a takedown attempt but Burks pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A solid body kick from Laaksonen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Laaksonen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Burks as he avoids it easily.

Burks lands a nice looking body shot.

Burks takes the fight into the clinch.

Laaksonen manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burks sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Laaksonen controls Burks momentarily but Burks frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Laaksonen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Burks controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Archie Burks just wasn't active enough.
Burks fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Laaksonen.
Burks throws a head kick that misses.
Burks pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Laaksonen has closed the distance and engaged Burks in a clinch.
Laaksonen fails to pull the fight into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Archie Burks will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Burks shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Laaksonen defends it nicely.

Laaksonen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burks to the mat! Burks manages to get full guard.
Burks trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Burks wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Laaksonen is now in half guard.
Laaksonen is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Burks!

Laaksonen swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Burks is now in Laaksonen's guard. A big mistake from Laaksonen there, giving up the dominant position!

Laaksonen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Burks is aware though and is defending well.

Laaksonen wants to sweep but no luck.
Burks controls from within his opponent's guard.
Burks preventing the sweep.
Laaksonen is breathing heavily.
Laaksonen wants to stand and escape but Burks is having none of it.

Burks decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Laaksonen, up you get!
Burks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Laaksonen's waist but Laaksonen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Burks off to one side.

Laaksonen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Laaksonen jumps guard and drags Burks to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Burks stops Laaksonen from standing up.
Laaksonen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Burks is one step ahead there.

Burks stands up and waves to Laaksonen to follow him.

Burks closes the distance and clinches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Laaksonen jumps guard but Burks turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Burks is trying to pull guard but Laaksonen has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Archie Burks. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Burks pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Burks shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Burks scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Laaksonen takes a kick to the side of the head.

Laaksonen forces Burks back against the cage and clinches.
Burks has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Laaksonen after a bit of a struggle.
Burks managing to block the knees to the body from Laaksonen.

Burks pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Laaksonen closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Burks's guard.
Burks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Laaksonen manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Burks is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Burks wants to control from the top but Laaksonen keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Niko Laaksonen will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Burks misses with a head kick.
A head kick from Laaksonen lands but Burks takes it in his stride.
Laaksonen dives in for a single leg takedown but Burks sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Laaksonen has picked Burks up - he's going for a ride! Laaksonen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Laaksonen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Burks has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Laaksonen is on him like a limpet, forcing Burks back against the cage.
Laaksonen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Burks is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Laaksonen tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Burks just stands there and leans against the cage.
Archie Burks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Niko Laaksonen.
Laaksonen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Burks avoids a wild elbow strike from Laaksonen.

Burks wants to get back to striking at distance but Laaksonen won't allow it.
Burks is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Laaksonen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Burks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Laaksonen's guard.

Laaksonen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Burks manages to get himself to full guard.

Burks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Laaksonen is controlling him.

Burks wants to stand but Laaksonen is controlling the position.

Laaksonen pushing down on Burks's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Laaksonen is looking to take a break and control but Burks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Burks wants to improve his position but Laaksonen is controlling well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Laaksonen is taking a breather. Burks says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Niko Laaksonen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Laaksonen has taken the fight to the clinch.

Niko Laaksonen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Laaksonen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
