PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tango Montana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chavez Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chavez Jr told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jr misses with a two punch combination.
No joy there for Jr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Montana clinches up with Jr and pushes him back against the cage.
Jr is trying to break free.

Montana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jr dodges the punch combination from Montana.

Montana gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jr wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Montana has him pressed against the cage.
Jr wants to break the clinch but can't.
Montana lands a nice knee to the body.
Jr has had enough of the clinch but Montana keeps him there for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jr jumps guard but Montana stands there with Jr around his waist. Jr gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Jr tries to pull guard but Montana won't allow it.

Montana works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Montana decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jr, up you get!
Jr tries to clinch up

and Montana moves into the clinch.

Montana manages to break the clinch.
Jr swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Montana counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Montana is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Montana gets to his feet. Jr looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Montana keeps control of Jr as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Montana gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Montana is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jr is just riding it out for now. Montana eventually gives up the hold.
Montana is breathing heavily.
Jr works his way to full guard. Good work.

Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Montana gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Montana seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Jr wants to get back to his feet but Montana is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's time! Montana's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The referee calls for Montana to work.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Montana attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Jr tries to keep at a distance but Montana has taken the fight into the clinch.

Montana jumps guard and drags Jr to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Montana has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Despite being in the dominant position, Chavez Jr just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Montana counters by clinching up.
Jr wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Montana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A left and a right from Jr both land. Nice combination.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Montana rushes Jr and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Tango Montana dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jr wants to clinch but Montana slips to the side
and Montana makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Tango Montana is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jr lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Jr throws a series of strikes that have Montana backpedaling.

Montana prevents Jr from breaking the clinch.
Jr goes for a takedown attempt but Montana pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Montana fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jr sprawls well initially but Montana persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Montana working over Jr with some ground and pound. Jr looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Jr wants to improve his position but Montana is controlling well.
Montana content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jr is looking to control Montana's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jr avoid being mounted?
Jr wants to get back to full guard but Montana has mounted him!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jr might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Montana kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Montana, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
