PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Folley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes to the cage accompanied by Clark - Growls Garden. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Joseph Jones and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Folley shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Williams has his hands on Folley's head, controlling the position.
Folley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Folley landing with the ground and pound.
Williams wants to sweep but no luck.
Folley trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Folley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Williams but Williams pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Folley gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Folley turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Folley manages to end up in side control.

Williams wants to control but Folley is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Williams flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Williams pulls Folley in close to his closed guard and prevents Folley from doing any damage or advancing position.

Folley decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Williams, up you get!

Williams darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Folley looks gassed!
Williams wants to free his trapped foot but Folley is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Folley pushes Williams off looking to stand but Williams dives back in and keeps control.
Williams thows a huge punch but Folley dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Folley can do anything to dispel that myth.
Williams lands with a punch from half guard.
Williams looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Folley is staying active underneath Williams, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams winds up and cracks Folley with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Folley is trying to stand up here but Williams is controlling him well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Folley counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Williams wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Folley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Williams swats away the attempt to clinch by Folley.
Williams catches Folley with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Williams tries to clinch there but Folley circles away.
Folley digs a good hook to Williams's body.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Folley misses with a wild combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mick Folley dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Williams swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Folley wants to clinch but Williams slips to the side

and Williams holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Williams's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Folley pulls guard successfully.
Williams slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Folley wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Williams is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Williams distracts Folley with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Folley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Folley seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Folley is keen to just control but Williams is a slippery customer.

Williams is looking for a sweep. Folley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Williams counters by moving into the clinch.
Williams has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Folley is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Folley wants a takedown but no success here.
Folley is trying to drag Williams to the mat but Williams just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mark Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mick Folley.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Folley tries to close the distance and clinch up but Williams swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Williams throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Williams changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Folley looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The ground and pound from Williams seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Williams passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Folley!
Folley tries to hold on but Williams pushes him away.
Folley is squirming around, avoiding Williams's attempts to control the action.
Williams pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Williams has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Folley's face.
Williams throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Williams manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Folley manages to get himself to full guard.

Folley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williams manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Folley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Williams gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Folley has momentary wrist control but Williams slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Folley fails in his attempt to clinch.
Folley takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Mick Folley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Folley tries for a takedown but Williams circles away easily
and Williams counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Folley thinking.
Mark Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mick Folley.
