Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Derek Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kanchai Suya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patterson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Hold on : by Tim Waits. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

and Patterson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Suya is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Patterson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Patterson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Patterson cracks Suya with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

After the fight, Derek Patterson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
