PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sirius Eksvaerd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eksvaerd comes into the arena with Led Zeppelin - Kashmir blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sirius Eksvaerd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frankie Rock!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eksvaerd keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Eksvaerd drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rock should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Eksvaerd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rock is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rock is trying to get back to half guard.
Eksvaerd wants to stand but Rock has his arm trapped.
Eksvaerd is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Eksvaerd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rock is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Eksvaerd tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Eksvaerd lands a decent elbow from side control.
Eksvaerd trying to control the position but Rock is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eksvaerd takes a little break here. Rock wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Eksvaerd fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Eksvaerd tries to move to mount but Rock blocks the move with his legs.
Eksvaerd knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rock on the ground.
Rock is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Eksvaerd off and has taken his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eksvaerd wants to control his opponent's hands but Rock gets his hands free.
Eksvaerd is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rock is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Well, with Rock on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Eksvaerd is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Rock goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Eksvaerd escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Rock is looking for a sweep. Eksvaerd is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eksvaerd content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sirius Eksvaerd dominated that round.
That's time! Eksvaerd's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Eksvaerd pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Eksvaerd closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Eksvaerd lands in his opponent's guard.
Eksvaerd postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rock is looking to stand up but Eksvaerd isn't so interested in that idea.
Eksvaerd passes Rock's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eksvaerd tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Rock.

Rock looking for submissions off his back.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Eksvaerd is pressing down on Rock's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rock is holding on for now.
Eksvaerd controlling the pace.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sirius Eksvaerd wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Rock swats away the attempt to clinch by Eksvaerd.
Eksvaerd stuffs the takedown attempt from Rock. Rock gets slowly back to his feet.
Eksvaerd looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Eksvaerd closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Eksvaerd is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rock defends it well.
Eksvaerd thows a huge punch but Rock dodges it nicely.
Eksvaerd slows the pace down in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eksvaerd wants to advance to full mount but Rock doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Eksvaerd distracts Rock with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Eksvaerd is looking to stand up but Rock won't let him.
Eksvaerd stays in close to Rock's body and controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sirius Eksvaerd dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Rock tries for a takedown but Eksvaerd sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Eksvaerd tries to clinch up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Eksvaerd.
Eksvaerd is working Rock over with some ground and pound from side control.
Eksvaerd is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Eksvaerd looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Eksvaerd trying to control the action but Rock is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rock is trying to improve his position.
Frankie Rock has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ground and pound from Eksvaerd seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Eksvaerd taking a breather here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eksvaerd is looking to take a break and control but Rock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Eksvaerd swings around for an armbar but Rock sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Eksvaerd's guard.
Eksvaerd looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rock is one step ahead there.

We're going to have a standup here because Sirius Eksvaerd wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Eksvaerd looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Rock!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rock tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Eksvaerd wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Eksvaerd creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rock sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Eksvaerd fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Eksvaerd tries to stand but Rock is controlling his head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sirius Eksvaerd showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Eksvaerd has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
