PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ McGobblecock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodniel Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romero has chosen Kanye West - Amazing as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, BJ McGobblecock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rodniel Romero!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGobblecock shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Romero's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McGobblecock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McGobblecock avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Romero working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from McGobblecock.
McGobblecock slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
McGobblecock postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Romero controls McGobblecock momentarily but McGobblecock frees himself.
McGobblecock loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
McGobblecock trying to control but Romero is working from the bottom.
McGobblecock trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Romero manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McGobblecock wants to hold on but Romero pushes him away.

Romero looking to ground and pound but McGobblecock is blocking nicely.
Romero trying to control but he's not successful this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Romero is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Romero thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McGobblecock's head.
McGobblecock is looking for a sweep. Romero is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Romero trying to mount his opponent but McGobblecock defends it.
McGobblecock is refusing to be controlled, as Romero sits in half guard.

McGobblecock actively working from the bottom here.

McGobblecock is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Romero pulls his head out easily.
McGobblecock tries to get to full guard but Romero has control of the leg.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McGobblecock preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Romero is keen to just control but McGobblecock is a slippery customer.

McGobblecock is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McGobblecock is looking to control Romero's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McGobblecock avoid being mounted?

Romero seems to be looking for submissions.
McGobblecock makes his way to full guard. A much better position for McGobblecock.
Romero wants to control from the top but McGobblecock keeps moving.
McGobblecock wants to improve his position but instead Romero has moved into half guard.
Romero uses his free foot to push down on McGobblecock's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for McGobblecock.
Romero avoids the attempt from McGobblecock to control.

Romero lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McGobblecock circles away quickly and effectively.
McGobblecock throws a big shot that misses.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Romero checks a leg kick.
McGobblecock swings for the body but Romero moves out of range.
McGobblecock shoots in for a takedown but Romero shows good takedown defense.
A punch combination from Romero misses.
McGobblecock fails in his attempt to clinch.
McGobblecock is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
McGobblecock attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
McGobblecock takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
McGobblecock walks into a jab.
Romero moves out of range of the body kick from McGobblecock.
McGobblecock misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Romero counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Romero throws a knee to the head but misses.
Romero taking a breather.
McGobblecock drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Romero wants to stall.
McGobblecock is trying to pull guard but Romero turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ McGobblecock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGobblecock wants to break free but Romero has control.
McGobblecock prevents the takedown attempt.

Romero is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
McGobblecock is in close to Romero's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Romero working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McGobblecock doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McGobblecock manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McGobblecock trying to control the position from guard on top but Romero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Romero utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McGobblecock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Romero swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Romero keeping moving, preventing McGobblecock from controlling successfully.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Romero is looking to cinch up a triangle. McGobblecock throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Romero's body to avoid the submission. Romero has instead reached around McGobblecock's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Romero arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Rodniel Romero!
Rodniel Romero spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
