PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Isidro Nielsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Shephard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Isidro Nielsen has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Isidro Nielsen seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shephard looks to score with a jab to the body but Nielsen is just out of range.
Shephard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nielsen.
Nielsen misses with a head kick.
Shephard lands a nice shot to the body.
Shephard misses with the combination.

Shephard closes the distance and clinches.
Shephard pushes Nielsen back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Shephard prevents Nielsen from breaking the clinch.
Nielsen tries to circle away but Shephard has him pinned against the cage.
Nielsen is looking to take this one to the mat.
Shephard wants to break the clinch but can't.
Shephard effectively controlling the action here.
Nielsen blocks the elbow strike.
Nielsen with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Shephard lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Nielsen.
Nielsen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Nielsen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Shephard's efforts to push away.

Nielsen wants the takedown. Shephard is fighting it off but Nielsen persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Shephard's guard against the cage.
Shephard wants to get back to his feet but Nielsen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Nielsen is breathing heavily.
Shephard is wriggling around but Nielsen manages to pass to half guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Shephard is trying to stand back up but Nielsen is controlling him
Nielsen thows a huge punch but Shephard dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shephard wants to get back to his feet.
Shephard pushes Nielsen off but Nielsen dives into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shephard can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nielsen throws a strike aimed at the side of Shephard's head but Shephard avoids it well.
Shephard is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Nielsen is controlling him well.
Shephard avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Nielsen.
Nielsen is working Shephard over with some ground and pound from side control.

Shephard wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nielsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nielsen stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Shephard lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nielsen backs up against the cage.
Shephard misses with a combination
and Nielsen counters with a head kick. That will keep Shephard thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nielsen blocks a head kick by Shephard.
Shephard jabs Nielsen to the body, keeping him at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Nielsen counters with a series of strikes. Shephard will be more careful next time no doubt.
Shephard goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Nielsen moves out of range of the body kick from Shephard.
Shephard lands an overhand right.
Shephard rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Nielsen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nielsen looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Nielsen takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Shephard throws a head kick but Nielsen moves out of range.
Nielsen blocks a head kick by Shephard.
Nielsen slips a jab and a cross from Shephard.
Shephard has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Nielsen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shephard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nielsen somewhat.
Shephard tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Nielsen counters with an inside leg kick.

Shephard tries a head kick but it misses.
Nielsen gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Nielsen tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Shephard is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Nielsen buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Nielsen!! Nielsen is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Shephard throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
