The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Backstrom shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Riley but Riley pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fight stays on the outside here - Riley looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Backstrom shoots in for a double leg but Riley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Riley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Backstrom uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Riley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Backstrom can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Riley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Backstrom. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Backstrom stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Riley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Riley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Backstrom defends well.

That was a close round but I would say that Olaf Backstrom will probably get the nod.

and Riley counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Backstrom shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Riley is trying to defend but Backstrom finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Riley is staying active underneath Backstrom, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Backstrom lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Backstrom is working to tighten his grip on Riley's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Riley has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Backstrom is really squeezing tight and eventually Riley passes out! Backstrom breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
