PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohammad Mohammad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Prodigy Steel Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohammad Mohammad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Prodigy Steel Penn!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steel Penn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Steel Penn lands in his opponent's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mohammad wants to sweep but no luck.
Steel Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Mohammad is retaining full guard.
Mohammad is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steel Penn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mohammad knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steel Penn on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mohammad can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Steel Penn is looking to escape.

Steel Penn sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Steel Penn wants to clinch.
Mohammad connects with a solid leg kick.
Mohammad looks to land a combination but Steel Penn avoids it well.

Steel Penn drives through with a takedown into Mohammad's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Steel Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mohammad swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Steel Penn scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mohammad to see if he's OK.

Steel Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mohammad to his feet.
Mohammad connects with an inside leg kick.
Mohammad dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Steel Penn. That did some damage!

Steel Penn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Steel Penn thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mohammad's head.

Steel Penn thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Steel Penn landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Steel Penn thows a huge punch but Mohammad dodges it nicely.
Mohammad won't allow Steel Penn to pass to mount.
Mohammad has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Steel Penn is working away from the top position though.

Steel Penn is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mohammad sees it coming and defends easily.

Steel Penn wants to pass the guard but Mohammad is keeping the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Prodigy Steel Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mohammad's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Mohammad gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Steel Penn to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Steel Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Steel Penn postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Steel Penn goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mohammad rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Steel Penn's guard! Nice work there by Mohammad!
Steel Penn pulls Mohammad in close to prevent any damage.
Steel Penn wants to sweep here but Mohammad controlling him for the moment.
Steel Penn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Prodigy Steel Penn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mohammad has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mohammad misses with a low kick.

Mohammad Mohammad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mohammad moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Mohammad tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Steel Penn is able to avoid easily.
Some bone on bone action there as Mohammad checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Mohammad throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mohammad.

Steel Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mohammad to the mat! Mohammad manages to get full guard.

Mohammad Mohammad has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Steel Penn is pushing down on Mohammad's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mohammad is fighting to maintain full guard but Steel Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Prodigy Steel Penn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Steel Penn winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
