PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Puna Wai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ray Hughes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Puna Wai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ray Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes swinging wildly here.
Hughes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Wai fails with the takedown.
Wai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hughes avoids it really well and circles away.
Hughes moves in looking to clinch but Wai pushes him off.

Hughes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Wai is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Wai stands up and waves to Hughes to follow him.
Wai tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hughes defends well and Wai ends up having to push Hughes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Puna Wai. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hughes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wai closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hughes circles away.
Hughes throws a head kick that misses.

Wai closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hughes quickly recovers to half guard.

Wai is trying for a kimura here. Hughes looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Wai wins by kimura!
