PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ademir Azevado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Krause (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Krause told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ademir Azevado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Krause!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Azevado rushes Krause and presses him up against the cage.
Azevado swings wildly with an uppercut but Krause uses good head movement to avoid it.
Krause is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Azevado is defending well.
Azevado lands a hook to the side of the head.
Krause is trying to pull guard but Azevado has him pressed against the cage.
Krause blocks the elbow strike.
Krause managing to block the knees to the body from Azevado.
A shot in the inside from Azevado.
Azevado tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Krause avoids it.
Azevado lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Krause backwards.
Azevado blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
I was talking to Azevado's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Krause goes for a takedown attempt but Azevado pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Ademir Azevado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Krause.
Azevado shoots in and drives through. Krause sprawls well.
Krause fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Krause has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We're going to have a standup here because Ademir Azevado wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Krause shoots for a double leg takedown but Azevado sprawls well. He's pushed Krause's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Azevado tries to work over Krause's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Azevado seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Krause does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Krause is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Azevado is just riding it out for now. Krause eventually gives up the hold.

Krause stuffs the takedown attempt from Azevado. Azevado gets slowly back to his feet.
Azevado connects with a leg kick. Krause looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

A looping hook to the body misses from Azevado. Krause does a little dance to reset his feet.

Azevado goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Krause has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Azevado but great work by Krause.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ademir Azevado overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Krause is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Azevado has escaped the position, nice work there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Krause working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ademir Azevado is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Krause takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Krause thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Azevado is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Krause off and has taken his back!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to James Krause.
Well Azevado has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
