Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Davis Burgess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freddy West has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davis Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Freddy West!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

West clinches with his opponent.
West struggles to land a body shot inside as Burgess controls his hands.
West stalling in the clinch.
Burgess drops down looking for an ankle pick but West pulls his leg out and moves away.
West throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
West falls off balance throwing a combination
and Burgess counters with a nice uppercut.
West throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.

West throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Burgess tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. West is in Burgess's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
West in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
West connects with a couple of short punches.
West postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
West trying to control but Burgess is working from the bottom.

West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burgess. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
West postures up in Burgess's guard and throws a big left but Burgess blocks it.
West throws an elbow that misses. Burgess uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in West's guard. Nice move by Burgess!

West wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
West wants to stand and escape but Burgess is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Burgess trying to control the position from guard on top but West is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
West wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Burgess pushes West up against the cage in a clinch.

Burgess is trying to pull guard but West turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

West lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Burgess is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables West to keep the fight standing.

West wants the takedown. Burgess is fighting it off but West persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Burgess's guard against the cage.
West wants to control from the top but Burgess keeps moving.

West is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Burgess knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Burgess takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
West closes the distance but Burgess moves to the side
and Burgess counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
West misses with a wild body shot.
West tries to clinch there but Burgess circles away.

Burgess gets tackled into the cage by West. West maintains the clinch.
West tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
West throws a punch but it's blocked by Burgess.
West looking to throw knees to the head but Burgess is blocking nicely.

Burgess is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but West is defending well.
Burgess wants a takedown but no success here.

West breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Burgess looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A punch combination from West misses.
West lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Burgess circles away quickly and effectively.
West looks to score with a jab to the body but Burgess is just out of range.

West gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

West is pushing Burgess up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
West continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

West is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Burgess can't fight it off and eventually West manages to take the fight to the floor. Burgess looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
West postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

West throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Burgess works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Burgess wants to stand up but West is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
West lands with a good body shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burgess moves out of range of the body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freddy West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Burgess throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck West on the side of the head.

Burgess forces West back against the cage and clinches.
Burgess is looking to take this one to the mat.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
West with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

West tightens his grip and picks Burgess up, before dumping him to the ground. Burgess manages to land in guard.
West passes Burgess's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
West is trying to control. Burgess wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Burgess is trying to get back to full guard.
West thows a huge punch but Burgess dodges it nicely.

Burgess has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. West is working away from the top position though.
Burgess is staying active underneath West, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
West throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Burgess to regain full guard.
West lands a couple of digs.
West stays in close to Burgess's body and controls the position.

Burgess working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. West doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. West manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
West throws an elbow that misses. Burgess uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in West's guard. Nice move by Burgess!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if West can do anything to dispel that myth.

West wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Freddy West.
Burgess keeps the fight on the outside.
Freddy West is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

West drives through and clinches with Burgess against the cage.
West misses with a punch to the body.
Burgess jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as West walks away with a smile on his face. Burgess gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Burgess changes levels and goes for a takedown here. West fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Burgess avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Freddy West seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

West drives through and clinches with Burgess against the cage.
Burgess jumps guard but West stands there with Burgess around his waist. Burgess gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
West struggles to land a body shot inside as Burgess controls his hands.

West has clasped his hands together around Burgess's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Burgess is not content to let West control the position.
West controls the position from side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Freddy West comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well West has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
