PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenneth Townsend (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Esperanza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Townsend's entrance music is Out of my Way by Seether. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kenneth Townsend!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Esperanza!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Esperanza fails with an attempt to clinch.

Esperanza has closed the distance and engaged Townsend in a clinch.

Esperanza pulls Townsend into guard.
Esperanza looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Townsend wants to pass the guard but Esperanza is keeping the position.
Esperanza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Townsend. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Townsend drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Esperanza manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Townsend has Esperanza in his guard.
Esperanza must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Townsend preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Townsend isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Esperanza stacks Townsend on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Esperanza!

Esperanza decides to stand up, so the ref orders Townsend to his feet.
Townsend is breathing heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Townsend shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Esperanza as he avoids it easily.

Townsend drops back, looking for a kneebar! Esperanza looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Esperanza looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Esperanza!
Esperanza takes a little break here. Townsend wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
I looks like Esperanza might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Townsend is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Esperanza off and has taken his back!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Esperanza rolls, trying to escape but Townsend keeps control of the position.

Townsend is looking for the choke from the back position but Esperanza is controlling his hands well.
Townsend will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Townsend looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Esperanza is controlling Townsend 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.
Esperanza wanted to stand there but Townsend had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Townsend has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Esperanza can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Townsend manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Townsend swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Esperanza is now in Townsend's guard. A big mistake from Townsend there, giving up the dominant position!
Townsend can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Esperanza controls the pace.
Esperanza working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Esperanza wants to control from the top but Townsend keeps moving.

Townsend is looking for a triangle here but Esperanza uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

A close round but Jimmy Esperanza will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Esperanza shoots in but Townsend avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Townsend keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Esperanza tries for a takedown but Townsend sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Esperanza tries to stall but Townsend uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Townsend tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Esperanza smiles and moves away.

Townsend is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Esperanza pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenneth Townsend. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Townsend tries for a takedown. No joy.

Esperanza manages to pull guard.
Esperanza keeping full guard, as Townsend tries to pass.
Esperanza can't keep his opponent in guard - Townsend advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Townsend is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Esperanza doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Townsend.

Townsend is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Esperanza defends it well.

Esperanza is looking to control Townsend's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Esperanza avoid being mounted?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Townsend jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Esperanza is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Esperanza and Townsend has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Esperanza can't do much from the bottom here.

Townsend is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Esperanza is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

I wouldn't like to be where Esperanza is right now.
