The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramirez throws a right and a left that Ruiz avoids nicely.
Ruiz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ramirez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ramirez clinches up with Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage.
Ruiz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Ruiz pulls Ramirez into guard.
Ramirez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ramirez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ramirez lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Ramirez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ruiz looking for a guillotine here but Ramirez defends easily.
Ramirez pushing down on Ruiz's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruiz is looking for a sweep. Ramirez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ruiz has a hand on Ramirez's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Ramirez takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Ruiz wants to get back to his feet.
Ruiz is wriggling around trying to escape.

Ramirez is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ruiz has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Ramirez looking to ground and pound but Ruiz is blocking nicely.
Ruiz holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Ramirez tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ramirez misses with a head shot.
Ramirez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Ruiz is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ramirez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Ruiz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sloppy strikes from Ramirez. Those never looked like landing.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ramirez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Ruiz throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Ruiz works over Ramirez's head and body with a nice combination.
Ramirez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ruiz gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Ruiz tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Ramirez is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Ruiz buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Ruiz!! Ruiz is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Ramirez throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
