Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ash Stoner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, BJ Penn!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stoner rushes Penn and presses him up against the cage.
Stoner lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Stoner has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Penn clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Stoner lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Stoner lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Penn trying to control the position but Stoner manages to sink in the hooks.
Penn looks gassed!
Will Stoner go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Even with his hooks in, Stoner manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Stoner has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Penn.

Stoner is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

Stoner is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Stoner gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Stoner gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Stoner apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Stoner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stoner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penn.
Stoner tests Penn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Penn drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Stoner drops Penn with a right and a left! Stoner comes rushing in but Penn regains his composure and manages to keep Stoner in guard.


Penn is rocked!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Stoner's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Penn is still in real trouble! Can Stoner finish him?
Stoner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Stoner throwing strikes from guard but Penn blocks nicely.
Penn seems to have recovered his senses.

Penn had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Stoner is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Penn Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Stoner's back instead.
Penn is trying to stick to Stoner's back but Stoner is turning into Penn. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Penn's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Stoner.

Stoner stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Stoner with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Stoner throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Penn stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A lazy left from Stoner finds it's target.

Stoner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stoner trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Penn really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ash Stoner dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Stoner throws a series of strikes that have Penn backpedaling.
Stoner swinging wilding here.
Penn looks for a takedown but Stoner sprawls well.
Penn fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice jab there from Stoner.
Stoner's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Stoner duly obliges.


It looks like BJ Penn has been cut.
Stoner pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Penn walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Penn stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Stoner.
Stoner lands a jab to the head.
A left and a right from Stoner both land. Nice combination.
Ash Stoner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn tries to keep at a distance but Stoner has taken the fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Good body shot from Stoner.

Stoner manages to break the clinch.
Penn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stoner is fending him off so far but Penn persists. Nope, Stoner circles away and we're back to standing.
Penn slips a jab and a cross from Stoner.
Stoner moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Stoner bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Penn's head backwards.
Penn showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Stoner.
Stoner pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Penn keeps the fight on the outside.
Penn shoots in for a double leg but Stoner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ash Stoner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn.
Stoner throws a head kick that Penn semi-blocks.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stoner scores with a punch to the head.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stoner as he jumps to the side.
Stoner throws a lazy right hand but Penn sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A punch combination from Stoner misses.
Stoner is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Penn can do to turn this around?
Penn slips a straight right by Stoner.
Penn gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Stoner connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Stoner drives through and clinches with Penn against the cage.
Penn wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stoner has him pressed against the cage.
Stoner lands an elbow just above Penn 's eye.
Stoner lands with a left to the head.
Penn takes an elbow to the temple.
Stoner pushes Penn back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Stoner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Penn tries to clinch but Stoner moves out of range.
Penn shoots in and drives through. Stoner sprawls well.
A combination from Stoner does no damage.
Stoner bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Penn's head backwards.

and Penn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Penn is tying to control. Stoner wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Stoner is trying to stand.

Stoner has one foot on Penn's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Stoner shows good takedown defense.
Penn takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Stoner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penn.
Penn shoots in but no luck this time.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Stoner shows good takedown defense.
Stoner missing with a left hand there. Penn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Stoner misses with a two punch combination.

Stoner rushes Penn and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Stoner lands an uppercut.
Penn prevents a takedown attempt there.
Penn is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Stoner lands a nice uppercut.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stoner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stoner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Penn tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Stoner counters by moving into the clinch.
Stoner's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Stoner lands a nice uppercut.
Penn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stoner smiles and moves away.
Stoner scores with a shot to the body.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stoner but Stoner pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nice sprawl there from Stoner as Penn shoots in.

Stoner swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Penn throws a leg kick but Stoner sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stoner as he avoids it easily.

and Penn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stoner's guard now.

Stoner wants to stand up but Penn is controlling him.
Ash Stoner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ash Stoner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Penn tries to stand but Stoner is controlling from the bottom.
Stoner on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Stoner tries to get out of the position.

Penn is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stoner is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stoner has escaped and now he's on top!

Stoner stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Stoner closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Stoner lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Penn backwards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stoner working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Penn fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stoner digs a right hand underneath Penn's ribcage. Penn let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Penn tries to pull guard but Stoner holds him up against the cage and eventually Penn drops back down to his feet.
Stoner scores a nice knee to the body.
Penn is looking to break free of the clinch but Stoner has double underhooks.

Stoner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
BJ Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stoner looks to land a combination. Penn sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Penn has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ash Stoner showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Stoner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
