Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Silverstien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marshall Silverstien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chad Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silverstien moves in looking to clinch but Mendes pushes him off.

Silverstien instigates a clinch.
Silverstien drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mendes gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Silverstien breaks the clinch.
Silverstien stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mendes.
Silverstien keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mendes.
Silverstien has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silverstien looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mendes throws a series of punches but Silverstien avoids them all with ease.

Chad Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mendes has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mendes looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Silverstien shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Silverstien showed some decent athleticism there.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mendes can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Silverstien lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mendes tries to keep at a distance but Silverstien has taken the fight into the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Silverstien - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Mendes has had enough of the clinch but Silverstien keeps him there for the moment.

Silverstien turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Silverstien manages to end up in side control.

Silverstien has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Silverstien has closed the distance and engaged Mendes in a clinch.

Silverstien postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silverstien accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Silverstien seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mendes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
