PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kira Miyata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dustin Carmelo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miyata comes to the cage accompanied by Boa - Energetic. Carmelo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: These Boots. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kira Miyata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dustin Carmelo!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Phil Schofield and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab from Miyata.
Carmelo has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Carmelo there as he acknowledges the shot.

Miyata gets tackled into the cage by Carmelo. Carmelo maintains the clinch.
Miyata gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carmelo.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Miyata has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Carmelo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Miyata lands with a left to the head.
Carmelo tries to score a body lock takedown but Miyata shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Carmelo lands a hook to the side of the head.
Carmelo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Miyata pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kira Miyata has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dustin Carmelo.

Carmelo is trying to trip Miyata. He has hold of a leg but Miyata is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Carmelo persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Carmelo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Miyata has his foot on Carmelo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carmelo works his way back into a safe position though.

Carmelo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Miyata has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carmelo has managed to get both his arms back between Miyata's legs - danger averted.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Carmelo working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Miyata counters with a shoot takedown. Carmelo fights it but they end up in guard.
Carmelo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carmelo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Carmelo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Carmelo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Miyata is trying to keep Carmelo in close.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Carmelo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miyata is working away from the top position though.
Miyata is keen to just control but Carmelo is a slippery customer.
Carmelo is looking to control Miyata's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carmelo avoid being mounted?
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Carmelo has Miyata pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Carmelo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Miyata tumbling to the mat - Carmelo dives into Miyata's guard.

Miyata has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carmelo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kira Miyata will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Carmelo moves forwards but Miyata connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Carmelo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Miyata, as that shot connected.

Miyata uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Miyata fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carmelo manages to avoid it.

Miyata looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Horrible takedown attempt by Carmelo or perhaps it was just good defense by Miyata, which made it look bad.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Miyata throws a shot from downtown. Carmelo moves away and avoids it.

Well Miyata has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
