PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steveo Perkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Sosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Steveo Perkins has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steveo Perkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jorge Sosa!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sosa throws a nice looking combination but Perkins bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Perkins closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Nice takedown defense from Perkins. No joy for Sosa on that attempt.
Perkins feints a jab promting Sosa to slip. Perkins then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Sosa slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Perkins does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Perkins enables Sosa to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Perkins manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Perkins manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sosa manages to get himself to full guard.

Sosa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Perkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sosa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sosa is pulling down on Perkins's head to control his posture.

Perkins would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Sosa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Perkins defends well.

Sosa has his foot on Perkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Perkins works his way back into a safe position though.
Perkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sosa on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sosa has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Perkins's face.

Sosa has control of Perkins's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Perkins regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Sosa has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Perkins's face.

The referee warns Perkins that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Sosa wants to control the pace but Perkins is squirming around nicely.
Sosa breaks from Perkins's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Perkins tries to hold on but Sosa pushes him away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Perkins is looking to improve his position but Sosa isn't that keen on the idea.
Sosa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Perkins is looking to escape.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
BOOM! Sosa connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Perkins throws a series of strikes that have Sosa backpedaling.
Some bone on bone action there as Perkins checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Perkins lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Perkins dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Perkins takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sosa misses the shot to the body.
Sosa misses with a looping right.
Perkins looks to land a combination. Sosa sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Sosa takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A decent looking cross lands there for Perkins.
Sosa is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Perkins.
Sosa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Perkins defends well and Sosa ends up having to push Perkins into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Perkins lands a left hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perkins prevents a takedown attempt there.
Perkins lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Sosa or not.
Sosa drops down looking for an ankle pick but Perkins pulls his leg out and moves away.
Steveo Perkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jorge Sosa.

Perkins connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Steveo Perkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sosa slips a jab and a cross from Perkins.

Sosa tries to pull guard but Perkins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

We've been informed that Sosa has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sosa shoots for a takedown but Perkins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Sosa is trying hard to land a takedown here. Perkins sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sosa closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Sosa takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Perkins lands a right hook to the body.

Perkins connects with a body shot that sends Sosa's belly button to the back.

Sosa with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Perkins to score with a decent uppercut.

Sosa doesn't manage to clinch there - Perkins circles away.
Perkins uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sosa.
