Mangold comes to the cage accompanied by Dead Prez . Mayo has chosen Super Furry Animals - Golden Retriever as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Mayo!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayo with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Mayo connects with a single shot there.

Mayo has closed the distance and engaged Mangold in a clinch.
A short right from Mayo on the inside.

Mangold breaks the clinch.
Mayo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mangold circles away.
Mayo has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mangold is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Mayo misses with a wild body shot.
Mayo just misses with a punch to the body.
Mayo throws a lazy right hand but Mangold sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Mayo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mangold manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mayo is defended easily by Mangold.
Mangold shoots and misses
and Mayo counters with a stiff right hand.
Mayo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mangold.
Mangold connects with a single shot there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mangold showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mayo.
Mayo's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mangold under the eye.
Mayo misses with a two punch combination.
Mangold steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mayo.
Mangold fails with a takedown attempt.
Mangold has his takedown stuffed

and Mayo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Danny Mangold. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mangold breaks from the clinch.
Mayo throws a head kick that misses

and Mangold counters with a shoot takedown. Mayo fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mayo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mangold scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Mayo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mangold throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mangold working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mayo pulls Mangold in close to his closed guard and prevents Mangold from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mangold postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Mangold works over Mayo with some ground and pound from guard.


Mayo is rocked!
Mangold is working Mayo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mayo is still in real trouble! Can Mangold finish him?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mangold passes Mayo's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mangold lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Mayo! More strikes land and this one is all over! Mangold jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Danny Mangold!
As Danny Mangold got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: I have fought the best, and have defeated the best.
