PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Parsons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parsons has chosen Call Me The Breeze as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Parsons!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul dodges the punch combination from Parsons.
Parsons throws a series of punches but Paul avoids them all with ease.
Parsons tries to clinch up but Paul circles away and keeps his distance.
Parsons throws a nice looking combination but Paul bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Parsons throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Parsons swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Paul avoids a punch combination nicely.
Parsons throws a right hand that Paul ducks under and follows up with a left that Paul also avoids with ease.
The fight stays on the outside here - Paul looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Charlie Parsons seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Parsons throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

and Paul counters with a shoot takedown. Parsons fights it but they end up in guard.
Parsons wants to stand and escape but Paul is having none of it.

Parsons has his feet on Paul's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

and Paul counters with a nice double leg into side control. Parsons won't be happy with that.

Paul thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
I wouldn't like to be where Parsons is right now.

Parsons tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Paul wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Paul tries for a kimura but Parsons is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Parsons is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Parsons is pushing Paul's head away, looking to escape. Paul manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Paul makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Paul is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Paul is trying to break the clinch but Parsons has him pressed against the cage.

Parsons pushes Paul back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Parsons throws a punch but it's blocked by Paul.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Paul dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Parsons is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Paul is controlling him well.
Parsons is not content to let Paul control the position.
Paul prevents Parsons from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Paul is working to tighten is grip on Parsons's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Parsons has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Paul is really squeezing tight and eventually Parsons passes out! Paul breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
