Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jay Zol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akiyama Shinichi acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Zol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shinichi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Zol to the mat! Zol manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Shinichi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shinichi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zol swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shinichi won't allow Zol to get back to his feet.
Zol can't keep his opponent in guard - Shinichi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Zol pushes Shinichi off looking to stand but Shinichi dives back in and keeps control.
Zol is in trouble now - Shinichi has advanced to mount!

Shinichi wants to control the pace but Zol is squirming around nicely.
Zol's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Zol is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Jef Li's MMA(13 coaches, 49 cap), so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Shinichi is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Zol is surviving well by controlling Shinichi's body position as best he can.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shinichi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zol is looking to escape.

Shinichi has hold of Zol's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Zol manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Jay Zol will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Zol connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shinichi some visible discomfort.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zol has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Shinichi is on him like a limpet, forcing Zol back against the cage.

Zol got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shinichi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Zol has managed to get both his arms back between Shinichi's legs - danger averted.

Jay Zol showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Zol, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
