The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitfield throws a quick inside leg kick.
Whitfield throws a lazy uppercut

and Bulger counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Bulger looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Whitfield holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Whitfield slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Bulger drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bulger jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Whitfield pulls Bulger in close to prevent any damage.
Bulger trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Whitfield knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bulger on the ground.

Whitfield tries to bum rush Bulger with a series of wild strikes but Bulger uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bulger's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Whitfield connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bulger scrambles back to his feet.
Bulger is still on wobbly legs! Can Whitfield finish him?
Whack! Whitfield lands a heavy head kick that drops Bulger. The ref tackles Whitfield to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Bulger was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Kevin Whitfield!
As Kevin Whitfield got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: I've been in the gym for a long time and I've had the opportunity to train with and learn from the best fighters in the world - including Dustin Douglas. It's now my time - it's time for me to start my climb to the top of the ladder.'.
