PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wolfram Stelzer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raijin Kage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stelzer comes to the cage accompanied by Satyricon - K.I.N.G.. Kage is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gojira - Oroborus. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Wolfram Stelzer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raijin Kage!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kage turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Stelzer throws a series of punches but Kage moves out of range.
Stelzer waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kage.
Kage scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Kage shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stelzer's guard.
Stelzer trying to keep a closed guard but Kage is proving a slippery customer.
Kage trying to control the position from guard on top but Stelzer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kage stays in close to Stelzer's body and controls the position.
It looks like Kage might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Raijin Kage hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Kage fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stelzer sprawls well initially but Kage persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stelzer tries to roll over but Kage keeps him under control.

Stelzer has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Stelzer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kage is working away from the top position though.
Kage takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kage wants to pass the guard but Stelzer is defending well.
Kage throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kage is trying to control the action in half guard but Stelzer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Stelzer is trying to maintain the position but Kage is very close to passing his half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Stelzer tries to roll over but Kage keeps him under control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stelzer moves out of range of the body kick from Kage.
Stelzer is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kage.
Wolfram Stelzer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stelzer misses with a looping left.
Kage looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Stelzer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kage looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kage wants to pass to mount but Stelzer is defending the position.
Kage wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stelzer keeps working.

Kage trying to advance position but Stelzer counters by regaining guard.

Stelzer looking for a sweep. Not yet Stelzer, not yet.

Kage avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Stelzer has control of Kage's left arm, preventing Kage from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kage drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stelzer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kage has Stelzer in his guard.

Stelzer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kage looking for a sweep. Not yet Kage, not yet.
Kage controls Stelzer momentarily but Stelzer frees himself.

Stelzer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kage is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Stelzer, into his guard.
Kage sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stelzer's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stelzer wants to control but Kage is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Stelzer is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Stelzer actively working from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raijin Kage dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kage throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kage shoots in looking for a takedown. Stelzer tries to sprawl out of it but Kage keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stelzer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kage closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Stelzer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kage trying to control but Stelzer is working from the bottom.
Kage not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Stelzer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kage defends it easily.

Kage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stelzer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kage working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stelzer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stelzer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stelzer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kage swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well Kage has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
