The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cortez tries to sprawl but Bartholomew drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cortez tries to get to full guard but Bartholomew has control of the leg.

Bartholomew has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bartholomew is nestled in close to Cortez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bartholomew in particular looking to stall.
Bartholomew uses his free foot to push down on Cortez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cortez.
Cortez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bartholomew. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
