PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Misual Lalpa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lalpa might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Seek n Destroy. Smith has chosen Sabaton- Metal machine as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lalpa shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Lalpa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lalpa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lalpa off to one side.

and Lalpa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lalpa.

Smith is working an open guard so Lalpa takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Lalpa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lalpa drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smith dives on top into guard.

Lalpa is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Smith is controlling him well.
Smith cracks Lalpa with a big right hand but Lalpa just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Smith cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You get the feeling that Lalpa really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Lalpa bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Lalpa wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lalpa gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.
Lalpa slaps away a takedown attempt from Smith, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Lalpa sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Misual Lalpa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Smith.

A right hook to the body lands for Smith.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lalpa pulls guard effortlessly.
Lalpa wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position.
Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lalpa's head.

Lalpa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Smith wants to control from the top but Lalpa keeps moving.

Lalpa has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Smith is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lalpa.
Lalpa takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Smith passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Lalpa!
Smith is landing with some decent strikes but Lalpa is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Lalpa is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Lalpa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Lalpa drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!

Lalpa is looking to cinch up a triangle. Smith throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Lalpa's body to avoid the submission. Lalpa has instead reached around Smith's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Lalpa arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
